CDS's to go with the usual "Manteo, N.C." cancel, there are about a dozen "colored in" covers and a couple dozen handpainted covers present, there are 13 different "Postmaster General" cachets which Planty catalogs at $100 each (only six possible sets of this special printing), there are some unlisted cachets included, another key here is the overall quality which is simply outstanding for this area, there are dozens of covers here which would retail over $100 and a few more dozen which retail in the $50-100 range, this collection certainly must be the finest group of Dare FDC's ever put together, simply an amazing opportunity for the specialist in this area, in addition to the collection there are about a dozen folders packed with correspondence relating to the efforst of Mr. Hough, we have included many scans on the website of the better covers, (ENV 3,000-4,000) (Image)

THE JOE D. HOUGH COLLECTION OF COLLINS HANDPAINTED FDC'S 1979-1998, includes about 710 mostly different handpainted Collins FDC's sorted loose in a medium box, most are in the 1979-98 period and includes some of the better sets, the overall condition is very clean with only a few scattered faults, there are some of the better early covers which retail in the $50-150 range and then several hundred with retail values in the $25-50 range, a truly wonderful collection of these incredibly popular multicolored handpainted FDC's, the estimated retail value of this group is in the $7,500-10,000 range, a very rare opportunity to jump into this extremely popular area of FDC collecting, (ENV $2,000-3,000) (Image)
THE JOE D. HOUGH COLLECTION OF FDC'S 1940-1999, includes regulars and commems, mounted in 53 three-ring binders, pretty much complete for the period and includes many duplicate issues with various cachets for each, about 98% unaddressed, the overall condition is very clean with some faults to be expected, the key to this advanced collection is the variety of cachet makers and the collection includes many better cachets with the majority of covers NOT being from the big three makers, we scanned this collection and found many covers which retail in the $5-25 range, there are also some higher denomination items included, a really great collection which fills up five large cartons, viewing this collection will be a huge advantage to the serious bidder, (ENV 1,500-2,000) (Image)

EXTENSIVE LIFETIME PNC STAMP AND COVER COLLECTION, thousands of mint and used with an exceptional showing of used on covers contained in 21 large three ring binders, this collection was formed over many years and is quite extensive in terms of scope and completeness in this area, there are mint and used singles, pairs, strips and line pairs and strips all with the various plate numbers for each issue, the collector has broken out the Transportation Series, Flags and the other areas into individual albums, the overall quality in mixed and there are faults but for the most part a pretty clean collection, there are some better used plate numbers here like plate #6 on the 18c Flag, the very important key to this collection is the number of covers present, we cannot overstate this in terms of value since there are many, many covers with retail values in the $5-25 range which in this area makes these covers scarce, we can't imagine how many hours the collector spent looking for these PNC covers through huge hoards of bulk cover lots but we can assure you it was hundreds and hundreds of hours but the work is now done and here they all are in one amazing collection, we suspect if someone sat down with a Scott catalog or a Nazar catalog there would be tens of thousands of dollars in catalog value in this huge collection, we feel that at our estimate of $200 an album a buyer is getting a steal with a huge potential upside, without question the most extensive PNC collection we have ever handled, (ENV 4,000-5,000) (Image)

U.S. 1851 ISSUE #10's & 11's ACCUMULATION, includes 665 singles and multiples, neatly sorted into a small stockbook, virtually all used with a couple of no gums, a incredible array of cancels and shades, we figured at least 20 were #10's but there are probably more, we noticed dozens of better shades, at least 100 better cancels are here, in addition there are over 20 margin singles along with a few on piece and one cover, the overall condition is pretty clean for this type of lot but there are some faults to be expected, we noticed dozens of Very Fine+ singles and copies with four margins, it appears the collector was accumulating stamps he liked with the plan of working this group up perhaps into a mounted specialized collection, a wonderful opportunity for the specialist in this area, one of the better 3c 1851 groups we have ever offered, the catalog value is our estimate but once all the varieties, cancels and shades are figured this number is likely to be much higher (Image)
