1787 Fugio Cent Pointed Rays; Cinquefoils after date; States United on rev. Lovely light brown VF or better. The lower left third of the planchet shows lamination on the obv only. Overall, a very nice example. (Fugio Cents were struck in 1788 in New Haven CT by James Jarvis when the fledging US government decided to have money made by private minters on contract. Jarvis bribed the head of the Board of Treasury to obtain a contract that specified that he would mint approximately 32 million Fugios in fulfillment. The government cancelled the contract 18 months later due to Jarvis's mint failing to fulfill the contract. At the time of cancellation, Jarvis had supplied only about 400,000 pieces to the Treasury. Always an experiment (like all colonial issues), there are about 15 known varieties of Fugio Cents. They represent a fascinating chapter in US history, and they are well worth researching by anyone having a serious interest in US numismatics.) (Image)
1855 MS62 BR. Lovely even light brown. There is a 3mm rev planchet abnormality near the rim @K3 but it hardly detracts from the coin's overall appearance. (Image)

(88) Diff in a virtually complete set 1909 // 1940-S (Whit 9004 folder) missing only the 1909-S VDB and 1922 No D. Generally G to F w/ laters a bit better. All the early S-Mint coins are present plus these highlights: 1909-S VG w/ corrosion, 1914-D grainy VG, 1931-S nice XF or nearly so.

1831 Bust NGC Unc Details Cleaned. Great detail, but some evidence of an attempt to remove natural toning. Nonetheless, the coin maintains some originality and eye-appeal. (Image)

1819 9 over 8 Large 9 O-104a VF perhaps a bit better. Even medium greenish-grey color. A darker foreign substance adheres to the lower third of the left obv field but the coin still maintains a nice overall appearance. (Image)
1829 9 over 7 O-101 VF+ obv and much stronger on the rev. The over-date is bold. Even light grey w/ a few surface hairlines but still quite appealing. (Image)
1875-CC ANACS AU50 Whizzed. The coin has been whizzed but it does not significantly detract from its overall appearance. Light champagne in color and still appealing. (Image)
1893-O VF by wear perhaps VF+. Surfaces appear unoriginal and there is a small obv rim hit @ K3. However the coin maintains a pleasing overall appearance and, given the scarcity of this date in higher condition, it is certainly acceptable for most collections. (Image)
1903-O MS60+ white except for very light toning around the left obv periphery. Brilliant and attractive w/ only a couple of contact marks on the cheek to note. The story of this date is a fascinating one, and many accounts of it are currently in print. (Image)

Cat No: 1855O Type 2
1855-O Liberty Type 2 XF. Adequate detail on an original coin, but there is an obv scratch between E and D of UNITED along with a few opposite marks on the rev. Scarce, low-mintage New Orleans issue seldom seen. In this cataloger's opinion, the damage is relatively minor and mentioned largely for descriptive accuracy as the coin still maintains decent eye-appeal. Worth inspection! (Image)
1857 Type 3 AU attractive w/ no problems. Though considered a "common" date, these are scarcer than the 1856 issue, and are encountered far less in the higher uncirculated grades than the later-date type 3's. (Image)
1874 Princess AU or very nearly so w/ no problems. Great type coin! The mintage of $3 gold pieces spiked in 1874 and the most likely reason was the destruction and re-coinage of older gold coins that was mandated by the Mint Act of 1873 - the same act that eliminated the Half-Dime and slightly increased the weight of all other subsidiary US silver coins. (Image)
1883 Liberty AU detail but obviously ex. jewelry w/ a small patch of solder on the rev at K6. Despite the flaws, the coin is flashy in appearance and a slightly better date to boot.
1911 Indian MS60. The majority of Indian $10 show some degree of wear or handling. This piece is a very nice example and would make a good choice for a type coin. (Image)
1873 Open 3 Liberty Type 2 MS60. The 1873 Open 3 is probably the most common Type 2 double eagle in mint state though ALL Type 2's are scarce in this grade. Even this issue lists for $3,600 in MS63. An opportunity to get a seldom-offered Type 2 $20 in higher grade. A few marks here and there but no discernable wear. (Image)
1922 St Gaudens AU ensconced in a large wreath-like 14k prong bezel weighing 15.6g in its own right. The bezel has 15 small rubies (costume) at the end of each leaf in the wreath. The weight of the entire ensemble is 49g and it contains 1.2575 ozt of pure gold. An attractive display. (Image)
