1813 og Image5c Blue (179). Original gum, deep rich color and proof-like impression, choice centering for this difficult issue with wide and balanced margins

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1875 5-CENT TAYLOR, SCOTT 179, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE ON RECORD AND THE ONLY STAMP TO ACHIEVE IT.

The 1875 printing, Scott 179, is often overlooked by collectors who put it into the same category as its 1879 counterpart, Scott 185, which is more readily available. For Mint N.H. copies, we have offered only five unduplicated since keeping computerized records. The example offered here, while hinged, has the best centering of any we have encountered.

Ex "Hanover". With 2013 P.S.E. certificate (OGh, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $2,500.00). This is the highest grade awarded and the only one to achieve it. The SMQ value was never updated when this stamp realized $5,750 hammer in our 2016 sale of the "Hanover" collection (Image)
