Plate 5, position 15, without gum as issued, large to full margins, error was "corrected" and covered by a heavily struck "O" (as all known examples), part of papermaker's watermark, Very Fine, this error occurred once only on Plate 5, a mere two examples are recorded (the other in a block of sixteen, ex "Mountrobeck" and Vestey) (Image)

2378 og Long Island Remarkable Balance of the Thin Horizontally Laid Paper Issue (SG 7/22). 44 stamps total, incl. 1/2p Black (2) and Mauve (5 plus scarce block of four), 1p Black (4), Blue (5), Mauve (9) and Red (4), 6p Mauve (3), 1sh Black (2 top impressions, 3 carbon copies) and Mauve (3), most are four-margin examples, couple plated by Gibbs, incl. some minor plate varieties, typical minor faults to be expected which are endemic to this paper such as bends/creases and slight thins though most are Very Fine appearing, the total catalogue value alone exceeds £24,000, a rare opportunity to acquire such a large holding of these scarce Long Island stamps
