1353 ogbl Image10c Light Milky Blue, Stone Y (2e). Vertical block of six, original gum, h.r. top and bottom pairs, middle right stamp appears to be Mint N.H. but we offer no guarantee a certificate would say so (and breaking the block to harvest a Mint N.H. single would be philatelic vandalism), large margins to touched at lower left, bottom pair deep thin, top right stamp small thin spot

FINE-VERY FINE APPEARING BLOCK OF SIX OF THE 10-CENT PATERSON LITHOGRAPH FROM STONE Y, WITH AN EXTREMELY FINE GEM STAMP AT MIDDLE RIGHT. UNUSED EXAMPLES -- EITHER IN SINGLE OR MULTIPLE FORM -- ARE VERY RARE.

Leonard H. Hartmann, in an article on the 10c Stone Y stamps (Chronicle 186, May 2000, p. 121), stated that he had seen only two singles and a faulty block of 15 in unused condition from Stone Y. One single was from the Caspary collection and the block of 15 was in the Wickersham collection sold by Robert Laurence in 1940. That block is now part of the Hartmann collection. There is also mention in Dietz of an unused block of 10, which may in fact be referring to the defective block of 15. This block of six and the block of four from the Hall collection (offered in Kilbourne Part One, Sale 1186, lot 656) were off the market for many decades when Mr. Hartmann wrote his article and were unknown to him.

Acquired by the Kilbournes in 1966. Unused block of four is listed in Scott but unpriced. Scott Retail as singles is $7,500.00 (Image)

Ansley & Co. Commission Merchants corner card, opened for display, couple mended flap tears, Very Fine, a choice combination (Image)
