VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE PERFORATED ONE-CENT DR. D. JAYNE & SON ON WATERMARKED PAPER. ONE OF THE GREAT RARITIES OF THE ISSUE.

The 1c Dr. D. Jayne & Son issue is known perforated on old paper, silk paper and watermarked paper. The others are scarce, but this example on the distinctive watermarked paper is unique.

VERY FINE AND CHOICE. ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE 2-CENT DR. D. JAYNE & SON ON OLD PAPER. OFFERED TO THE MARKET FOR THE FIRST TIME IN DECADES.

Only two examples are recorded in the 1994 Aldrich book, and both were offered in the Joyce sale. The other example was described with light thins, and does not show the doubling or plate scratches. The 1934 census recorded five, but the other three had not been seen in the intervening 60 years.

Only two imperforate examples of this stamp on old paper are known (one is offered in the previous lot). The perforated version offered here is unique.

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT BLACK D. JAYNE & SON IMPERFORATE ON SILK PAPER. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH THE IMPRINT AND SHEET MARGIN.

Only 14 are recorded in the Aldrich book. The Joyce collection also contained an example with imprint and sheet margin at bottom, but the example offered here has a wider sheet margin.

VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 4-CENT DR. D. JAYNE & SONS ON OLD PAPER. ONLY FIVE ARE RECORDED AND THIS IS THE FINEST IN TERMS OF CONDITION.

The Aldrich book reports five are known, and that only one is sound. The stamp offered here was described in the Joyce sale as sound. Of the other two offered in the Joyce sale, one has vertical creases and square margins, and one has a repaired tear and is hand trimmed on all sides.
