VERY FINE. AN IMPORTANT RARITY OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE.
Only two Six Pence sheets of 60 stamps were inadvertently surcharged One Penny instead of Half Penny. The One Shilling stamp was supposed to get the One Penny surcharge. Most were destroyed, but the Treasurer of Dominica saved twelve stamps - two unused examples and ten were mailed on an envelope to a stamp dealer friend (and where this example originated). A handful of stamps from the other sheet have surfaced. It is believed today about fourteen used and two unused examples exist.
Accompanied by a photocopy of a large part of the original envelope on which they were used, showing the placement of seven of the stamps. Ex "Isleham" and "Dallas". With 1952 R.P.S. certificate. SG £10,000 (Image)
