Illustrated design on bright orange-buff cover to Washington Ark. with 10c Blue, Die A (11), large margins to clear including top sheet margin, tied by "Marshall Tex. Sep. 15, 1862" double-circle datestamp, second strike at left, with original enclosure written by Superintendent of the Arkansas State Telegraph Co. asking his local representative to clarify the status of telegraph workers -- superintendents and operators were originally given exemption from military service, but later legislation did not specify their status and so they were branded as conscripts and unpatriotic citizens -- cover with some edgewear including small mended opening nick at top left

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE AND DESIRABLE ILLUSTRATED COVER FROM THE ARKANSAS STATE TELEGRAPH COMPANY, WITH FASCINATING CONTENT REGARDING THE STATUS OF TELEGRAPH WORKERS DURING THE WAR.
