310 c Image2c Green (3). Horizontal strip of five, gutter between left stamps, large margins to just in, bright shade, tied by "Holly Springs Miss. Dec. 31" circular datestamps on buff cover to Minden La., trivial edgewear barely affects strip

VERY FINE. THIS IS ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED STRIPS OF FIVE ON COVER WITH A GUTTER. A GREAT RARITY.

Accompanied by copy of July-August 1998 Confederate Philatelist discussing the recent discovery of this cover. The sender of this cover was a member of Minden's Rangers, a Louisiana squadron that was a part of Brigadier General Frank Crawford Armstrong's Cavalry Brigade in the Army of the West. The other recorded strip on cover with a gutter was used from Raleigh N.C.

A FINE APPEARING AND SPECTACULAR COVER, COMBINING AN EXTREMELY RARE BLOCK OF THE 2-CENT GREEN LITHOGRAPH AND ADVERSITY USE WITHIN TEXAS. ONLY THREE COVERS ARE RECORDED WITH A BLOCK OF ANY SIZE, AND THIS IS ONE OF TWO FROM TEXAS.

The census of 2c Green Lithograph covers by Dr. Daniel C. Warren, published in the 2011 Congress Book, lists eleven covers from Texas and two covers with a block of five. This cover is not listed in the census, and it is one of two blocks on a cover from Texas. (Image)
