Paid Jul. 20" circular datestamp and affixed over 3c Red on Buff Star Die entire (U27) to Marietta Ga., red "6" in circle handstamp for 6c due to make up 10c rate, stamp with faint crease, some slight cover edgewear

VERY FINE. A RARE VERTICAL PAIR OF THE 2-CENT GREEN WITH ONE STAMP SHOWING "TOP KNOT" VARIETY ON AN UNDERPAID COVER.

The pair is especially desirable, since the two sheet margins better demonstrate the positions on the plate. Signed Ashbrook and with his note on back indicating this was probably an 1862 use and is probably unique.
