StampAuctionNetwork Sale - 2601

Thematics. France & Colonies with emphasis on Rare Proofs - July 22, 2026

Welcome to the first of several monthly sales featuring items from Pierre Wertheimer’s inventory, as well as material from an NC collector/investor. Pierre Wertheimer has been a collector and dealer for over 40 years. He is known for his expertise in Proofs. We have a PDF of a brochure on Modern Proofs of the French Area that he published back in 1984. For "An Introduction to Modern Proofs of the French Area" refer to this helpful PDF file found (here)

Pierre ran auctions using our platform from 1990 to 2000 for his company France International which he sold in 2001. He has continued his philatelic activities as a collector and as part-time and full-time dealer and the co-administrator of the Facebook group: Philatélie les spécialistes des épreuves. He has written articles on Proofs in major philatelic publications and in thematic and French Colonies Facebook groups including one in five parts on UPU specimen for the French Area.

This first sale features including many thematic rarities including Proofs and unique original designs of the French Area as well unusual and hard-to-find thematic exhibit items such as pre-philatelic covers and illustrated telegrams plus French classics and 20th century specialties, as well as wholesale lots for dealers. Many items are rare or even one of a kind and therefore present a great opportunity to add rarely offered material to a country or topical collection or exhibit. This is a Live Auction using StampAuctionNetwork's Auto Hammer. You will notice no difference from regular Live bidding, except there is no auctioneer selling and waiting on each lot. Each lot will be open for 15 seconds and then be sold. Each new bid will reset the timer for another 15 seconds.

This first sale has 119 lots. Live Bidding will start at 11:00 am EST.

You can also enter your bids before the auction as absentee bids, or use "Unattended Live Bidding", to have StampAuctionNetwork execute them for you when the lot comes up for sale. This allows you to enter your maximum bid to be executed for you live (as in mail auctions or Vente sur Offres in France) without revealing your top bid. Both estimates and minimum bid (reserve) are available.
