6138 nhB Si.I-II imageAir Post. 1913 German-English Airship Expedition, 2pf single, 1m lower right sheet corner margin block of four, n.h., post office fresh, v.f., extremely rare multiple in perfect condition. Also an unused picture postal card promoting the venture (In 1913, the three colonial powers began planning for a joint expedition to New Guinea with the purpose of exploring and mapping the interior of the island via airship. The Dutch backed out of the project at its very beginning, with the Germans and English continuing to schedule a planned expedition. The project assembled a joint British-German crew for the airship, with scientists from both countries. The Airship Expedition was scheduled for the second half of 1914, exactly the time when World War I broke out.
