6101 E   imageMilitary Mail. 1919 two native covers, one official registered mail sent unfranked from the 9th Division Commissariat Administration in Harbin to the unit Commissariat in Nikolsk Ussuriysk, Registry label mostly missing, handstamped "Zakaznoye" alongside, with departure (4.3.19) and arrival (5.3.19) markings. The second cover is franked with strip of 3x20k dark blue & red, tied by Khabarovsk (11 Apr) departure pmks, addressed to the Chinese Army Headquarters in Nikolsk Ussuriysk (after the Russian Revolution, Chinese merchants in Vladivostok and Irkutsk demanded protection from the Chinese government, which in response dispatched 1,600 troops and 700 support personnel. The Chinese troops were engaged in combat against both the Bolsheviks and Cossacks) (Image)

Only a few examples of the bilingual El-Arish pmk have been recorded on cover (one of the first objectives of the Turks was to take El-Arish, the principal town in the Sinai. This was accomplished at the end of October 1914 and El-Arish remained in Ottoman control until early 1916, when the Egyptian Expeditionary Force was able to clear the Sinai Peninsula) (Image)
