(23.8), the 50c additionally tied by "Customs/Newchwang" double-ring origin datestamp in brown, showing "R" unframed handstamp in red and handstruck framed "R" in black adjacent, one 2c on 2ca in the block is defective, cover faults, including lower left corner torn away on front, as to be expected for such a large cover of this nature, Fine and spectacular franking.

Experts and Consultants certificate (2008), which classifies the 4c on 4ca as "rose pink".

Scott 51), canceled by "Chefoo" dollar dater on 1897 (29 Sept.) decorative envelope to Valejo, California (23.10) via Yokohama (7.10), Victoria, British Columbia (19.10) and Seattle (20.10), "Shanghai" transit dollar dater (1.10) in blue on reverse, in combination with Japan Koban 5s., cancelled by "Shanghai/I.J.P.O." c.d.s. (2.10), a trifle reduced at left and light uniform toning, Fine to Very Fine.

Although the rate through the Japanese Post Office had been increased to 10 sen (10 cents) effective 1 October, the Japanese 5 sen had been applied at the same time as the Chinese stamps and was still accepted at the old 5 cents preferential rate to the United States through the Japanese Post Office.

Scott 54, 55), the 10c on 12ca is a vertical pair, canceled by "Hankow" dollar dater on 1897 (4 Sept.) registered envelope to Cologne, Germany (13.10), "Shanghai" transit dollar dater (7.9, inverted "S" in "Sep") on reverse, in combination with France "Chine" 25c. and 1f. cancelled by "Shang-hai/Chine" c.d.s. (8.9), showing "R" unframed handstamp (minor abrasion at top) in red and handstruck framed "R" in black adjacent, the 1f has small defect at top, Very Fine and fabulous franking with the 30c on 24ca, of which there are only a few commercial usages.

The 50 cents registered quadruple rate for mail overseas to U.P.U. countries.

Scott 35, 55a), the 30c on 24ca variety is from the right Pane, position 5, the 10c on 9ca is a vertical pair with interpane margin at top, canceled by Tientsin pakua on 1897 (9 Sept.) large registered envelope to Krakau, Austria (28.10), matching "Tientsin" origin dollar dater, in combination with France "Chine" 25c. and 1f., cancelled by "Shang-hai/Chine" c.d.s. (17.9), showing "R" unframed handstamp in red and handstruck framed "R" in black adjacent, stamps have a few small marginal faults, back flap at left and small part of back there missing, Fine to Very Fine appearance, and a striking four times weight registered franking, especially so with the variety.
