Even though the Railway P.O. could accept registered mail, this is believed to be one of only two reported examples of registered mail matter accepted by the Railway P.O. during the Tsingtau-Kiautschou Bahnpost Period.

Although the railway was opened to Tsingchow (Tschingtschoufu) on April 12, 1903, a Railway Postal Agency was not opened there until June 15, 1903.

Scott 30), canceled by "Tschingtschoufu" circular undated handstamp, showing "Tsingtau-Weihsien/Bahnpost/Zug 1" oval datestamp and printed registration label with "Tschingtschoufu" inserted by hand; contrary to German postal regulations the cancellations were misapplied to the cover, since the stamp was to be canceled by the T.P.O dater rather than the undated circular town handstamp and the T.P.O. dater should have been "Zug 2" for the eastbound train and right side up, paying the double rate for postage from the leased territory beyond the neutral zone to Germany, Fine to Very Fine. A First Day usage for the Tschingtschoufu Railway Postal Agency; only five such registered covers are recorded, all with the same combination of dater and handstamp application errors,

(7.15); the train departed Tsingtau on the 17th, connecting at Tsinanfu (7.18), where the mail continued in closed bag by rail to Harbin (7.20) and the Trans-Siberian Railway to Moscow (7.28), and then on to Berlin, Very Fine.
