It was used on covers carried on a balloon ascension of June 18, 1877 which began at Nashville and landed at Gallatin, Tenn. and possibly on other flights…The stamp was reported to have been engraved by (Mrs.?) J.H. Snively and printed in tete beche paris from a single die. Lillard wrote that 300 were printed and 23 used."
