Postal Stationery
LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
83   imagePlated Accumulation of Columbian Entires with Extras, 1879-93, Well over 1,000 unused entires from the 1893 Columbian issue takes center stage of this postal stationery holding. Consult the Scott Specialized and there is only a mention of the four dies used in its printing. The catalog published by the United Postal Stationery Society dives much deeper providing information on envelope sizes and knife variations, yet this collector went so far as to plate the majority of these. The approximate quantities for each denomination are as follows: U348 (618), U349 (450), U350 (234). In addition, bundles of the Liberty postal card for international use, specifically UX6 (38) and UX16 (101), a binder of unused cut squares, and a few dozen more miscellaneous entires from the early 20th century. Overall 2023 Scott CV based on the standard value is in the neighborhood of $10,000, generally Fine to Very Fine. Shipping charges apply - weight 17 lbs. (Image)

87   image"The Revenue and Proprietary Stamps of the United States" album by George Carter with slipcase, 98 pages with interleaving, for issues to 1902 (R1-R194, RF1-RF4, but no Beer stamps) including first, second and third issues plus spaces for varieties and inverted centers, and complete match and medicine stamps, a handful of the M&M pages show small hinge marks but the majority of the pages are clean and appear to be unused, front cover corners worn and the spine shows heavy wear but is intact, the slipcase is in very rough shape, that having been said, original Carter albums are extremely scarce and the pages and interleaving are in outstanding condition, this is most likely the only one you will see in your lifetime, ex J. Leonard Diamond.

Shipping charges apply - weight 6.4 lbs.
From matchandmedicine.com -- "George Carter was born in 1864 and made his residence in New York City since 1887. He was a printer by trade and was the founder of the N. Y. Printer's Supply Salesman's Guild. As a printer he must have been attracted by the beauty of US revenue stamps and he began to trade in them. For a period he published Carter's Messenger -"Issued occasionally- In the Interest of Stamp Collecting in General & Revenues, Match and Medicine Stamps in Particular" as he proclaimed in the masthead. Naturally he needed an album to house the M&Ms he was selling; thus the "Carter album" with which newer Revenuers may not be acquainted, was born. The album was somewhat curious by present standards. Instead of the usual taller rather than wider format, the Carter album was the reverse and the pages were approximately 11.5" x 9" inches. The pages appear somewhat quaint, not only because of the horizontal arrangement but also because of the partial illustrations Carter afforded the collector. Regulations of the time somewhat incomprehensibly, forbade illustration of even obsolete U. S. revenues, so Carter resorted to use of crude partial sketches, though not all spaces were illustrated. The (album) was touted as "the most complete ever issued-gives most minute details as to every variety of paper in the Match & Medicines–etc. etc." Testimonials were forthcoming from such stalwart collectors of U. S. revenues as Clarence Eagle (DFK note -- who assisted in the catalog production by provided images), Hiram Deats, George Hetrich and others."
