The Grant sale was a March 11 1959 John Fox sale where the auctioneer wrote "The first printing of the Two Cents stamps was in red but the sheets were held back because they did not have an inscription describing their usage. Reprinted in blue with the proper inscription the stamps went in use on July 3rd, 1861. At a much later date, probably in 1862, the supply of the Two Cents in blue became exhausted and some of the red stamps were placed on sale. The Two Cents stamps were used for drop letters within the New Orleans city limits and also for paying the postage on form letters and circulars to distant points. Very few covers are in existence."
