Venezuela
LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
2229 og   image1929, Unissued Revolutionary Government stamps, 180 all different ungummed full sheets of 40, bound into a quarter-leather bound book, with six explanatory pages in the front. There is a single basic 3-color design in three denominations: 10c, 25c & 50c; each exists plain, overprinted "Aereo", and overprinted "Oficial". So, in theory, there are nine different stamps. Then it becomes complicated with all sorts of varieties: missing, inverted, or doubled colors and/or overprints, different papers, imperfs, part-perfs, printed on both sides, tête-bêche, etc., etc. The sheets each bear a control number (not consecutive, though we do note No. 00001-00003). A remarkable and unique piece of Venezuelan philatelic history.

These were printed, probably in Mexico, and brought into Venezuela with the attacking army of the Venezuelan Revolutionary Party, led by Rafael Simón Urbina, in an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the government of Juan Vicente Gómez.
