1094 cover 1925.0626 image1925 U.S.S. Shenandoah Flight from Lakehurst NJ, ½¢ Hale pair and 1¢ (#551 & 552) tied by "Lakehurst N.J. Jun. 26 1925" circular datestamp and "Bar Harbor Maine Jul. 4" duplex cancel on cover with purple "Via Air Mail by U.S. Navy Dirigible" two line and black "U.S.S. Shenandoah" handstamps, addressed by Joseph Steinmetz to his daughter at "Beaver" Camp for Girls, Extremely Fine and rare. Give credit to young Frances for keeping this cover in such superb condition!!! The U.S.S. Shenandoah underwent maintenance and ground test work in the first half of 1925 and this cover was carried on its first flight of the year. Soon, it would be destroyed on Sept. 3 1925 during its 57th flight.

Jul. 4, 1925" machine cancel and with violet "By Airship Shenandoah" straightline handstamp, other is a Roessler cover that was not flown (no Lakehurst cancel) franked with 2c Lexington Concord (not catalogued), Very Fine duo.

The Patoka was the Shenandoah's mooring ship and was close to the conference.

1096 shenandoah fabric imageUSS Shenandoah Gas Bag Fabric, two pieces, one approximately 90 x 34 mm, one approximately 80 x 66 mm; the horizontal piece with "Piece of 'Shenandoah' Gas Bag 1925" penned on reverse, the squarish piece with copy of affidavit of Mike Ducar, stating in part, "As I was crossing the field near the wrecked ship, I picked up a piece of the gas bag for a souvenir"; also included is an autographed photo of Capt.
