1261 cover 31 C var. Japan image1929 (Aug 23), Round-the-World Flight, Tokyo - Friedrichshafen (Sieger 31 C var.), picture postcard franked with a 6s carmine (195) tied by an Aug 21 Tokyo c.d.s. with a red onboard c.d.s. dated Aug 3 (!?) and no receiving postmark, Very Fine, signed Dr. Simon, with his 1991 certificate not specifying a catalog number.
Michel 32 Ea var.

The card is from the airship's Chief Steward, Henrich Kubis, to his wife in Friedrichshafen. In the accompanying certificate, Dr. Simon postulates that the onboard cancel either had the incorrect date or that Kubis used a card from a previous flight, and that, after having the card postmarked in Tokyo, Kubis carried the card home with him in his luggage.

He built the airship USS Los Angeles for the US Navy in repayment of a portion of Germany's reparation debt. Because the German government of the Weimar era could not afford to fund airship construction, Eckener toured the nation raising money by voluntary donations. With these funds, Eckener built the Graf Zeppelin, in which he circled the Earth (1929) and made a polar flight in 1931., with 2001 Sismondo certificate.
