107 cover   imageAnselm Family Correspondence, Bayou Chicot, La., about 25 covers (mainly stampless) and 12 letters, most of it from soldiers H. Anselm and A.K. Anselm to their mother in Bayou Chicot, laq; from various towns around the South; included are four Confederate Patriotic covers: two Dragoons (SM-1) with partial Midlothian, Va. c.d.s. and manuscript "Due 10"; one with Cannon & Flag (CN-2) with Tangapayo, La. c.d.s. and handstamped "PAID"; the fourth, an 11-Star Flag (F11-8) with handstamped "Due 10" and an illegible c.d.s. (these last two are from a different Bayou Chicot correspondence); most of the letters are quite legible, some of them with typed transcripts, but the content is fairly mundane; condition is only average, but nonetheless an interesting group, ex Lippman. Catalog MS-1), in red on a small lady's envelope, unused with a manuscript endorsement, "Found near Bristoe's Station, Manassas Gap Railroad, April 9th 1862 by Lieutenant A. Chalmers Hinton, Co. B, 1st N.Y. Cavalry" with a 5¢ London print (6) added at a later date; exceptionally fresh, Very Fine and unusual, ex-Gatsby, with a 1989 C.S.A. certificate.


Hinton was a 2nd ltnl at the time and would eventually attain the rank of Captain.

116 cover SN-4 imageSoldier with Saber & 11-Star Flag (C.S.A. Catalog SN-4), in yellow on a gray soldier-enorsed cover with faint penciled "Due 10" and a Sep 7 Macon, Miss. c.d.s., to Euterp, Ky.; damp staining has obscured most of the soldier's endorsement, leaving only that he was a member of a Mississippi Cavalry unit. Includes the Very Fine original 2-sided cross-written letter, datelined "Camp Co. Fair Grounds, Macon Miss., Sunday Sept 6th 1863", which seems to have some interesting content, including, "I prefer the Picket Line in front of the Enemy", though it's a bit hard to read because of the cross-writing., ex-Gatsby, cover with a 2001 C.S.A. certificate.
