The Clipper landed here at 2:30pm, after a trip of nine hour's time from Honolulu. The large plane landing in our lagoon is certainly a wonderful sight, as you can imagine. Less than a year ago, there was no Pan-American Airways on Midway Island, and nothing but the Cable Station was here. Now they have a machine shop, wireless station, electric lighting plant and many other things important in making a complete airways base. Some weeks ago, the S.S. North Haven arrived with the material for the new hotel. After a two-day wait, she left for Wake Island, being unable to unload on account of the rough weather. We are expecting her return around the end of this month. The new hotel to be built here is for the accommodations of passengers passing through, and promises a summer resort some time in the future…" He then describes the climate, activities (golf, tennis, fishing, boating), and apologizes for there not being a post office on Midway. He closes with "This letter will go via the China Clipper, arriving here from Wake Island Thursday, and leaving for Honolulu, Friday morning", Very Fine. (Image) (Image2) (Image3) (Image4)
