1916, New York, N.Y. Precancel die essay, large die proof on India, an albino impression of the precancel engraved into the
die of a 2¢ Washington (499), showing traces of rose printing ink; the precancel itself would have been printed in the color of the stamp; die-sunk on full 6" x 8" card with blue control no. 748423 on the back; card is somewhat
toned/soiled with a small tear at the left edge, Fine and rare.
This was Bureau die number 627. A 1993 ASDA souvenir card shows an impression from this die, as well as a version with the precancel in white (uninked), Bureau die 635.
