372 cover 372 image1909, 2¢ Hudson-Fulton (Scott 372), tied by "Lancaster Pa 12:30 AM Sep. 25, 1909" three-line First Day machine cancel on fold-out souvenir postcard -- the message page with four paragraphs of text describing each panel -- the inside two panels show images of Fulton and the back shows Fulton's birthplace in Lancaster -- addressed to Rothsville PA and with same day receiving circular datestamp, Extremely Fine, The souvenir postcard was prepared by Congressman William Walton Griest to commemorate the Fulton stamp. Walton represented Lancaster County and served as chairman of the House Committee on the Post Office. There were two types of souvenir postcards -- one with three paragraphs of text on the address panel and one with four paragraphs of text on the address panel. There are approximately 50 known of both types combined.

Mar. 3 1919" First Day wavy line machine cancel on cover prepared by known Washington D.C. stamp dealer H.F. Colman to "Prof. Milton Whitney, Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Sails, Washington D.C.", faint pressed out horizontal crease at top only visible from back, otherwise Very Fine, Colman and Whitney were friends from the Washington D.C. Philatelic Society and had knowledge of the designated first day covers of the early part of the 20th century. The Washington Philatelic Society was discussed in great detail in an outstanding two-part article by Henry B. Scheuer in the Nov and Dec 2022 issues of The American Philatelist.

He produced the only known example of Scott C1 on its designated first day of Dec. 10 1918.
