Mitchell Thomasville Geo., small faults, still Very Fine, the Confederate Post Office began operations on June 1, 1861 and US postage was no longer valid. The Thomasville postmaster must have noticed this and required the recipient to pay double rate
as a penalty for sending unpaid and then marked it paid. If the Quitman postmaster had noticed this and required the sender to pay, then it would have been a Paid 5 marking. (Image)
