Confederate Currency and Interesting Backstory, An 1862 $100 Note and a June 1861 "Corporation of Winchester (Va). 10¢
Note, together with the original 1888 letter in which they were sent from a man to his son. The letter reads, "Enclosed...I send you a relic of the Civil War which...was in actual use inside of the Southern Confederacy...;I have thought enough of
the two papers to keep them...and consider them very acceptable mementos of the War&....The ten cent scrip I obtained from a Slave near Winchester, Va. in the Spring of 1862. The $100 note was given me by my brother who got it in Richmond, Va. while
passing through that city when it surrendered to the Union Army at the closing of the War...". Included is the cover in which they were mailed postmarked North Weymouth, Mass., Dec 21, 1888, and a newspaper clipping of a 5-verse, bittersweet poem
entitled "The Confederate Note". The $100 note is in average circulated condition, the 10¢ is worn and repaired (see online images). Still a marvelous group. (Image) (Image2)
