1142   imageAmazing Consignment Balance, so many items to list so here goes (in no particular order) -- Dec. 12 1898 letter that begins with "Just before noon today at the White House the President personally conferred upon me the medal of honor - with most kind words of congratulation. Governor Bierleigh introduced me very cordially…." (the President was Theodore Roosevelt), 7 Civil War documents and letters with different letterheads, two letters datelined "Legation of the United States Buenos Ayres" Dec. 20th 1863 and January 10th 1864 regarding a Silas Atkins, a 17 x 11 inch Illinois State Militia printed document signed by Illinois Governor Richard Yates appointing John S. Nicholls as First Lieutenant of Company "K" Thirtieth Regiment of Illinois Volunteers" dated August 28th 1861", 1861 lease for a recruitment office, hundreds of used postal stationery from the 1970's (mostly U557), the obligatory first day covers, two and a half shoeboxes of post cards sorted by theme, two and a half shoeboxes of covers and post cards with flag cancels, a shoebox of mostly unused Tuck post cards, 13 c. 1864 letters with Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railway Co. President's office letterhead, a 1914 postmaster appointment in the original mailing tube, a used postmaster receipt book (tabs only), hardbound book "Form 1564 Carriers' Route Directory (few entries), four 1920's "cash books and register of money orders issued" of Liberty WVA, and a large part of a record of receipts for transit and local outgoing registered mail, a small group of used US and foreign stamps, plus some additional odds and ends, mixed condition, generally Fine to Very Fine.
