841 cover   image1931-1933, Inter-Island Airways air express service, 5 covers: there are two types of handstamps: Type 1, three-line with central wings in blue and Type 2, three-line "to be called for" in purple. Type 1 is found on two covers: 1931 (Aug 11), Hilo to a haberdasher in Honolulu and 1931 (Oct 28), Hilo to Honolulu, docketed in pencil on a Railway Business envelope. A faint strike of Type two is found on a 1932 (Apr 2) Hilo to Honolulu cover tying 4¢ & 8¢ Washington Bicents., a bit tatty; another faint strike (date uncertain) on a Honolulu to Hilo cover with an additional straight-line "via Air Express" in purple, trimmed on left not affecting markings, and a perfect strike of Type 2 dated Mar 17, 1933, Hilo to Honolulu (probably philatelic). Also included, FF cover for AM Route 33 (revised) and lovely Inter-Island Airways baggage label. An extraordinary group of very rare covers, Very Fine. 844 cover   imageDr. Hugo Eckener; three items, 1) a U.S. Century of Progress Zeppelin cover, Miami to Chicago, signed by Eckener; 2) a mint German postcard for a Leipzig Fair featuring a color Portrait of Eckener; and 3) a printed copy of an Eckener letter, datelined Friedrichshafen, Oct 12, 1929, which reads (in German): "These days, precisely in the so-called educated circles, there is a generally shared wish and desire to live in a good and comfortable manner. Oh, do you not see the seriousness of the situation? When will the simple 'will to live' come to life?" The letter has some light damp staining at the right, otherwise everything is Very Fine.
