261   imagePearl Harbor Dec. 10 1941 "I am Well" postc, Scott #UX27 canceled by "U.S. Dec. 10, 1941" machine cancel from a sailor on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania, censor markingi at lower left, very fine, these postcards were issued by military authorities at Pearl Harbor to permit military personnel who survived the attack to notify their friends and loved ones of their statuses. Many of these postcards took an agonizing three to six weeks to reach the mainland. The U.S.S. Pennsylvania was in the Navy Yard's large drydock beyond the reach of the torpedoes, and fortunately only one bomb landed directly upon it., ex-Lippman. (Image)
