Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions, LLC Sale - 850

The Charles Henderson Collection of Plate Number Blocks & Multiples - July 30, 2026

“For more than fifty years, stamp collecting has been one of the great constants in my life. What began as a childhood interest grew into a lifelong passion that remained with me through all the ups and downs of life. Over the years, I have collected stamps from around the world. However, my primary focus has always been United States stamps, particularly plate blocks, which have provided me with countless hours of enjoyment and study.

What makes stamp collecting such a unique and rewarding hobby is the freedom it offers each collector. Every collection reflects the individual who builds it, shaped by personal interests, goals, and experiences. No two collections are exactly alike, and this collection is no exception. Assembled over more than five decades, it represents a lifetime of dedication, learning, and appreciation of philately. It is my hope that its next steward will derive as much pleasure from it as I have.” — Charles Henderson

A search to obtain only full wide top margin plate blocks and multiples led Chuck on an unthinkable task. Everyone knows, or should if they do not, the extreme rarity of finding today, intact, full wide margined plate blocks and imprint strips. It is estimated that less than 5% of surviving plate blocks from the classic period meet these criteria. That's one in every twenty. Couple with that premium centering and fully intact perforations and it's a much smaller number. Only something a true connoisseur can handle—willing to patiently wait while the items become available. This is what inspired this collector, always excited when a new item became available. It's the penultimate challenge as one must patiently await as they creep onto the market. No small task and certainly an unrivaled opportunity to add these true rarities to your collection or portfolio.

We encourage you to acquire what you can from this sale as it may be another lifetime until these items appear on the market again. We have been honored to have been chosen to bring this to market and trust that you too will enjoy and share the passion that Chuck did in his lifelong quest.
