1910 real photo postcard of a Malay woman captioned "Djarna a Cocos native Belle" & the Christmas greeting headed "Cocos/Nov 30th
1910" & initialled "EFB", to "TC Cole/Larnoo/Merricks/Westernport Bay Vic/Australia" & endorsed "via Colombo" but with Netherlands Indies 5c red tied by very fine 'WELTEVREDEN/6.12.10/+++++' cds. An extremely rare, early and significant item from
Cocos. From the ad hoc postal arrangements period, Colin Riddell had 18 inwards items but his collection included no outwards items.
At this time, staff at the cable station could send mail by the Clunies-Ross trading vessel and this item was probably handled by the family's Batavia agents Campbell McColl & Co. The sender was EF Biffen, an employee of Cable & Wireless. 'Larnoo'
was a corriedale sheep stud owned by Tom & Phyllis ("Elsie") Cole. (Image1) (Image2)
