Aubwin: 'AUBWIN/FE11/1858/=STH-AUSTRALIA=' cds (Mordan-Type UF2; rated RRRR) largely very fine complete strike on small piece.
Replaced Kercoonda PO 21.8.1851. Both the Handbook and Martin Walker state that 'AUBWIN' is an inscriptional error for 'AUBURN'. However, it seems improbable for the Post Office in the 1850s to allow such an error to remain uncorrected for some eight
years. This leads us to speculate that the original name was 'AUBWIN', which was changed to 'AUBURN' in late-1858. Ex Don Pearce; sold at our auction of 6.12.2023 for $180 (Sale 254 Lot 2328). (Image1) (Image2)

Balhannah: 'BALHANNAH/NO12/1855/=SOUTH AUSTRALIA=' cds (Mordan-Type UF1; rated RRRR) fine complete strike on large-part folded
outer to Echunga alongside QV Perkins Bacon London Printing Imperforate 2d rose-carmine (SG 2; margins close to good) tied by poor but just identifiable Diamond Numeral '47' (rated C, but only three covers recorded), light but legible
'HAHNDORF/=SOUTH [AUSTRALIA]' cds (Mordan-Type UF1; rated RRR) transit backstamp, minor blemishes. Balhannah (4) PO 1.10.1852; renamed Oakbank 1861, probably on 19.8.1861, the day Balhannah (5) opened. Numeral '47' is common because it continued in
use at Oakbank until 1880; it must be very scarce used at Balhannah. To confuse matters, Balhannah (5) was allocated Numeral '147'. This is the strike illustrated in the Handbook. Don Pearce's 1861 item - the numerals on Second Roulettes 2d more
clearly struck - sold at our auction of 6.12.2023 for $600 (Sale 254 Lot 2331). (Image1) (Image2)

Blanchetown: 'MOORUNDE/MY [ ]/1861/=SOUTH-AUSTRALIA=' cds (Mordan-Type UF1; rated RRRR; year error) fine complete strike on
envelope to Port Lincoln endorsed "Registered Letter, 19/5/62, Paid" alongside QV Perkins Bacon Rouletted 2d vermilion x4 (a pair & two singles one marginal) tied by four light but legible strikes of Diamond Numeral '39' (rated R), Adelaide
'MY27/1862' transit where very fine 'REGISTERED-No.["129"]' handstamp applied on the face and Port Adelaide backstamp of the same day, back flap missing & repaired tear across back panel. Replaced Moorunde 1858. The date-range for the cds given in
the Handbook is fully after the transfer to Blanchetown, which Martin Walker notes received official approval 20.10.1857. Usage at the original office is thus unrecorded. This is the only numeral/datestamp 'tie' and the only registered item recorded.
Don Pearce's 1858 cover with the cds tying a single QV Perkins Bacon Adelaide Printings 2d red without Diamond Numeral - described as the only recorded usage on cover - sold at our auction of 6.12.2023 for $456 (Sale 254 Lot 2338). (Image1) (Image2)
