1944 (Oct) social cover to "Group 454/RAAF/Pacific" per flying boat 'Coolangatta' with stamps washed-off but with identifiable
'MIL[DURA]/VIC.' cds and superb 'SALVAGED MAIL' cachet in violet, minor water damage & resealed with brown tape, vertical fold but a very attractive item of disaster mail. Acquired at a Sydney auction in 2008 for $530. The plane experienced
mechanical issues after take-off from Rose Bay Sydney, attempted to return but crashed on approach, with one fatality. Inadvertently omitted from Brian Peace's Volume Four: see loose-page supplement, where only 29 covers are recorded. Only four of
them are from Victoria. (Image1)
