India 1940-43 KGVI 12a tied by very fine 'comet' datestamp of '21 OCT/1947'. Ex Dr William Wells. Following Partition in -.8.1947, control of the Muscat Post Office was passed to Pakistan. However, stamps overprinted 'PAKISTAN' were not issued in

MUSCAT: 1947 (Dec 3) illustrated advertising cover for the local His Masters Voice agent, airmail to England with India KGVI
1940-43 1a & 14a tied by two strikes of double-ring 'MUSCAT/3 DEC 47' cds, makeshift R 'label' with 'MUSCAT' handstamp & "R 56" in red. An extremely rare & desirable cover. Unoverprinted Indian stamps were valid in Muscat between -.8.1947 & -.12.1947
only. During this period, Neil Donaldson states that the 12a is the highest value recorded on commercial mail; this cover proves usage of the 14a. In addition, this is the only recorded Interim Period registered cover. It is also one of only three
covers recorded with the 'MUSCAT' handstamp in lieu of an R label. The others, from 1948, both bear 'PAKISTAN' Overprints. (Image1) (Image2)
