under-catalogued at $200. The rate was 2½d UPU foreign letter, and the incorrect tax marking was applied (it should have been 30 centimes for double 1½d deficiency), but it appears that the postage due was not collected in any event. Ex John

On 28.10.1918 (a mere two weeks before the Armistice), a ½d War Tax was introduced, with the proceeds going to the Government to help fund its wartime expenditure. Existing stocks of Letter Cards were overprinted, and new 1½d denomination Letter

rate was 1d domestic letter plus ½d War Tax (introduced 28.10.1918). This is the only Perf 10 Military Scene recorded. The ACSC states of the cards that were overprinted "It is to be expected that the 12 views used for the September 1918 printing
will all exist. Other views exist from earlier printings, and these include some military views. All these are very rare ..." [our emphasis]. John Sinfield's extensive collection did not include any 'THREE/HALFPENCE' overprints on Military Scenes. (Image1) (Image2)

ungummed uniform grey stock ACSC LC41P(1)B with one corner folded back to reveal the inside stock, 'AUSTRALIAN NOTE/AND STAMP PRINTER/("3")' cachet & 'DEC 18 1918' handstamp both in violet on the address panel, Cat $10,000. The admonition remained
unchanged, inadvertently referring to the 'penny rate of postage', which continued on the issued cards. The 'CLIFTON GARDENS' view was not used for the issued cards and exists only in this format, making it the rarest of all the views: only one other

unauthorised external usage of Australian postal stationery from occupied German New Guinea. The sender purported to pay the postcard rate of 1½d plus ½d War Tax, instead of the letter rate of 2½d plus ½d War Tax. Only ½d was legitimately paid - the
