4236 PSE image1914-18 KGV Sideface Die I Perf 12½ 1d grey-blue with 'STURT ST., BALLARAT' (buildings & tram; no sky) view ACSC LC18(127B), used 1915 to Sydney with the letter in German headed "Stilton House" and Glebe (?), NSW cds cancel, the edges removed & resealed with multiple Sydney 'OPENED BY CENSOR' purple/white labels, some minor blemishes & aging marks. 4237 PSE image1914-18 KGV Sideface Die I Perf 12½ 1d rose-red with 'TASMAN PENINSULA/TASMANIA' view ACSC LC18(130), used 1917 to a German internee at Pietermaritzburg POW Camp, Natal, South Africa with lengthy message in German, Sydney machine cancel and 'PASSED BY CENSOR' straight-line cachet in violet on the face, a few minor marks two affecting the view. A very scarce usage: although mail to and from Internees & Prisoners of War did not require the payment of postage, this item lacked the required endorsement. The Pietermaritzburg camp held around 4,500 German internees from the German Colonies in Africa that had been occupied during the war. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)

4243 PSE image1914-18 KGV Sideface Die II Perf 10 1d yellow-brown with 'WATERFALL GULLY/ADELAIDE' view ACSC LC21(140), used to "Dr. Lederer, Canberra, Murdoch-Str, Cremorne, Sydney" from an internee at Liverpool POW Camp with message "It is now allowed to get news-papers. Please send ... to me in the camp by post every day ...", 'LIVERPOOL/10.DE.14/N.S.W.' cds cancel and 'CENSORED/GERMAN CONCENTRATION CAMP/LIVERPOOL' large three-line cachet in green at upper-left, opened in the European fashion with the margins intact, a few mostly minor stains & aging marks. Dr Lederer was a leading member of the Colonial Administration of German New Guinea, and had signed the German surrender of the Colony in September 1914. He enjoyed diplomatic immunity, and was allowed to return to Germany via the USA in 1915. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)
