1860-69 QV Perkins Bacon Second Rouletted Issue 6d dull ultramarine horizontal pair Imperforate Between SG 30a, the right-hand unit
apparently damaged but it has been separated along the vertical rouletting, the extrusion at upper-right being an aberration, both units tied to a small piece by very fine 'PORT ADELAIDE/SP6/66/SA' cds, Cat £9500. One of the major errors of South
Australia. RPSL Certificate (1929). Absent from most of the major collections including of Harry Lower, Michael Blake and Don Pearce. Gary Diffen's very fine strip of 3 imperf between the second and third units, stated to be "the only example
recorded", sold for £6960. [With our vendor's consent, we have lifted the stamps, and hinged them back in place. Our examination confirmed that the pair is imperf between, and rouletted at left and right. Importantly, as noted above, the pair is
undamaged at right] (Image1)

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 4d deep ultramarine with '3-PENCE' in Black Surcharge Omitted SG 68c, extremely well-centred,
characteristic uneven perfs, minor light diagonal crease at upper-left that does not affect the very fine facial appearance, neat Adelaide duplex bars cancel, Cat £55,000. Ex 'Isleham' (1987 Lot 2469). BPA Certificate (1987) states 'is genuine.
Creased', which is harsh. Dr Don Pearce's example with minor separation faults sold for $44,840 (Sale 249 Lot 1143). Gary Diffen's very fine example sold in 2020 for £44,000.The 4d with Surcharge Omitted is the great rarity of South Australia. Only
three unused examples (one in the Royal Collection) and eleven used examples - four in institutions - have been recorded: see Geoff Kellow's illustrated census in 'Sydney Views' (Nov 2011), where this stamp is listed as 'U5'. That leaves only two
unused & seven used examples potentially available to collectors. This makes it significantly rarer than Western Australia's fabled 4d Swan with Inverted Frame, Cat £180,000. To quote Geoff Kellow: 'If the Inverted Frame is Australia's classic & most
famous stamp error, then following close behind is the South Australia '3-PENCE' on 4d with the Surcharge Omitted...[which] created the 4d ultramarine Error of Colour.' (Image1) (Image2)

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 9d bright mauve Printed on Both Sides SG 76a, the original impression on the 'reverse' is
upright relative to the face, unframed 'PORT ADELAIDE/73/OC10/ A /S A' cds, minor shallow thins, Cat £1000. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2018). Remarkably, both impressions are unusually well-centred, making this a very desirable example. Usage at the
GPO between September & November 1873, and at Port Adelaide between October & November 1873, coupled with the difference in the quality of the original printings, the latter being far superior, indicates that at least two sheets were affected. (Image1) (Image2)
