1882 (Sept 25) cover to South Carolina USA endorsed "via/San Francisco" but with QV First Sidefaces 6d green only tied by superb
'81' Numeral-in-Rays and very fine 'WARWICK/QUEENSLAND' unframed cds with fleurons at lower-left over-struck by very fine 'INSUFFICIENTLY/PRE-PAID' rounded-boxed handstamp applied above the endorsement, Brisbane & 'PLYMOUTH/DE 5/82/SHIP-LETTER'
transits and New York 'DEC/16' arrival backstamps, minor blemishes and light vertical bend. Underpaying the 8d non-contract rate to the USA via San Francisco, the item was sent via England and not taxed because the 6d rate for this route was fully
paid. Illustrated by Hugh Campbell in 'Postal History of Queensland' at page 112. Ex Bernie Manning: sold for $708 (Sale 234 Lot 146).

1890 (April 9) solicitor's envelope from England to "Captain Pennefather, Governor of St Helena, Brisbane, Queensland" with 1d
lilac x6 tied by five fine to very fine strikes of 'LIVERPOOL/466' Hooded-Circle datestamps, small-part Brisbane arrival backstamp only as part of back flap missing & minor edge faults. The buildings on St Helena Island in Moreton Bay were
constructed in 1865 to serve as a Quarantine Station, but overcrowding forced the site to be used as a gaol from 1867 onwards; the facility was closed in 1932. This is the first item of mail to or from the St Helena Island Prison that we have

1856-58 QV Perkins Bacon Adelaide Printings Imperforate 2d blood-red SG 8 block of 4, margins just touching - at upper-left - to
large with fragments of the two adjoining units at right, both upper units affected by Dry Ink or Ink-Stripping at the top, a couple of ironed-out creases/bends, indistinct circle-in-bars cancels of the GPO clear of the pale areas. Ex Don Pearce:
sold for $1557 (Sale 249 Lot 1034). Such varieties are a feature of the blood-red printing, caused by inconsistent wiping of the printing-plate. Only one other 'blood-red' block of 4 is recorded. Also Ex Don Pearce, it is superb, and sold for $3833
