2000 Sydney Olympic Games Gold Medallists 45c 'MATT WELSH/Swimming: 200m backstroke' essay in the same format as the issued stamps
being the right-hand sheetlet of 10 ACSC 2348E(3), unmounted, grossly under-catalogued. Unissued. The ACSC states "One uncut [sic] pair of sheetlets is recorded". The left-hand sheetlet has been split-up: we sold a single at our auction of 21.2.2024
for $456 (Sale 255 Lot 379). This was a trial printing to test the digital printing technology. Only one pair of sheetlets of 10 has been recorded. Thus only 20 stamps can exist, and this sheetlet represents half that number. They are thus much
scarcer than the 1935 Unissued Perf 14 1/- ANZAC, Cat $2750 (£1600). Fun fact: at the Games, Matt Welsh competed in the 200m backstroke, but did not win Gold, rather finished third. (Image1) (Image2)
