1912 (Feb 4) Italian official envelope with '[arms]/UFFICIO POSTELTELEGRAFICO/DI AGORDAT' imprint on the flap, to "Bari/Italy" with
Camels 1m & 2m pair tied by two of three very fine strikes of the rare 'SABDERAT/4FE912/...' cds in blue, the reverse with transits of 'KASSALA/5FEB12/...' & 'WADI-HALFA...'., light central vertical fold and minor peripheral defects with a few tears
repaired with archival tape. An extremely rare and desirable cover (Proud rated 6000pts).
Sabderat is located in North-West Ethiopia, 28km from the Sudan border, which is east of Kassala. Ted Proud states that Sabderat (1) opened 9.3.1910 as a Telegraph Office only; upgrading to PO is not recorded. The office apparently closed in 1922.
Agordat is situated in Eritrea which was colonised by Italy in 1889. It is a small inland town that was occupied by the Italians from 1893. Sabderat is 140km almost due west of Agordat. Today, both are within modern Eritrea. See also Lot 2877. (Image1) (Image2)

1925 (May 11) cover from French Equatorial Africa with 'TCHAD' Overprints tied by largely illegible cds, to "El Facher/Soudan
Egyptienne" but forwarded several times with an array of overlapping transit datestamps on the reverse including 'GENEINA-SUDAN/...' (the initial border-crossing), 'EL FASHER' on several occasions, various 'SHELLAL-HALFA' TPOs in both directions
including the 35½mm 'skeleton' cds, eventually forwarded to French Morocco but without an arrival, the superb 'MISSENT' handstamp was probably applied on the Riverine TPO. A fascinating cover that demands more research. (Image1) (Image2)
