POSTAL HISTORY: 1941-42 East African Forces in the Sudan five covers each with double-circle 'E.A./A.P.O. 2' cds comprising superb
strike on stampless cover to India with South African bi-lingual 'PASSED BY BASE CENSOR/EA No 2/...' boxed cachet in rosine, the others at 4½pi airmail rate to "European Civil/Emergency Hospital/ Nairobi/Kenya" with Military Censor No 43 cachet
across the flap, two - one with Equatorial Corps insignia on the flap - to Wales both signed at lower-left "PN Stauton", and one with uncancelled stamps to Southern Rhodesia with the cds on the reverse. Scarce quintet. Ex John Gibson. Fewer than 1000
East African troops served in southern Sudan, in the Juba & Malakal areas. Proud notes that five similar cds were held at Nairobi. However, it is almost certain that at least one of them was with the troops in the Sudan.
