1913 1d Kangaroo Die I on-piece tied by very fine 'SYDNEY/JAN/2 5 30PM/1913/N.S.W.' machine cancel, Cat $15,000 for a cover. Chris
Ceremuga Certificate (2006) states 'Genuine in all respects, contemporary cancel. Extremely rare'. This is a truly idiosyncratic machine cancel. The date is across three lines: 'JAN' at the top; then the day '2'; then '1913'. (Image1) (Image2)

1913 KGV 1d Engraved Plate I pair ACSC 59y tied by 'ADELAIDE/9 DEC.13 5.45PM' machine cancel on OHMS Weather Bureau cover with
inscriptions crossed-out, minor tonespots and tape repair on the flap, Cat $8500. Apparently commercial. The ACSC states "at least eleven covers exist with a single, pair or block of six". It was commonplace for the early Commonwealth issues to be
released on various dates in the six States. The Penny Engraved was to be issued 9.12.1913, and this was its date of issue in Sydney & Hobart. However, it was officially placed on sale in Melbourne, Adelaide & Brisbane on the 8th, and in Perth on the
12th. This item may thus be considered a 'First Day Cover' but used on the second day of issue in South Australia. Kevin Nelson's similar 9.12.13 cover from Melbourne sold at our auction of 6.8.2011 for $960 (Sale 167 Lot 304), and again at our
auction of 2.12.2021 for $895 (Sale 246 Lot 257). (Image1) (Image2)
