1871 Swans De La Rue New Denomination 3d imperforate plate proof block of 6 (3x2) from the top of the sheet in cinnamon (the issued
colour) on ungummed unwatermarked highly surfaced paper, margins good to humungous, each unit with 'CANCELLED' Overprint, a couple of very minor surface imperfections otherwise unusually fine for these proofs. In 1971, a half-sheet of 120 was sold at
a Sydney auction and all known examples derive from that pane. Most examples have obvious surface abrasions and/or tonespots on the reverse. This is the finest block we have seen. The Mike Brachi/Lord Vestey block of 10 (5x2) from the top of the
sheet sold in 2015 for £900. (Image1) (Image2)

upper-left & 'BEFORE/HARDENING' in black at upper-right ACSC W2(DP)1A, Cat $3000. Superb. Ex Lord Samuel Vestey: sold in 2015 for £504. This design was prepared in 1896, and stamps were printed in 1897. However, because of a large surplus of the 1893
6d SG 100, they were not issued until 1906, which is why this issue is listed in the ACSC 'Federal Period' catalogue. (Image1) (Image2)
