1866 (Sept 18) cross-border 'Riverina' combination cover with New South Wales QV De La Rue 1d rose x2 and Victoria QV Laureates 2d
violet all cancelled by poor Victorian Barred Numeral '80' cancels of 'SWAN HILL' (oval backstamp), to "Captain Horatio Nelson RN, P&O SS Madras, Melbourne" with very fine arrival backstamp of 'SE20/66' in blue, a few minor blemishes. Apparently
posted on the NSW side of the Murray River and processed on the Victorian side. This Horatio Nelson was not related to his famous namesake. Geoff Kellow's Census of 'Riverina covers' ('Sydney Views' August 2004 p4-14; updated by Gary Watson 'Sydney
Views' May 2005 p19-20) lists only 55 recorded cross-border combination franking items known. Late examples such as this are much scarcer than the better-known 1850s covers from the Deniliquin/Moama region. (Image1) (Image2)

earlier! - and the discontinuance of seeking payment from the sender. This is also a very rare piece of official postal stationery. Addressed to "Junction School". Yackandandah Junction PO 10.2.1872; closed 5.8.1885. No datestamps recorded. (Image1) (Image2)
