POSTAL CARDS: 1895 undenominated postcard-size advertising card modelled on the then-current Reading 1d Postal Card printed
entirely in rose-pink, for Francis Longmore Chemist (Melbourne) with the admonition converted to puffery & QV replaced by a tramp smoking a pipe & with his coat on fire with caption 'I THOUGHT I HAD/A MATCH ABOUT ME', the reverse promoting Longmore's
cure-alls and ridiculing a medium, Mrs Annie Fairlamb Mellon, who had recently been exposed as a fraud, very fine unused. This & the next lot are a recent discovery, and never before on the market. A fantastic item for the collector of Postal
Stationery, Advertising Mail, Pharmacists, Humour or Magic.
See also Lots 840, 862, 975 & 982 and Gary Watson's article in 'Philately from Australia' (March 2025), where the expanded story is told.
