1888-89 Centennial 20/- Governors imperf colour trial block of 4 in chocolate-brown on ungummed paper with an elaborate circular
sheet watermark across all units, large even margins. Rare. In 1988 Rodney Perry offered by private treaty ("Price on Application") a 'set' of 57 of the 65 possible colours all in blocks of 4, including this block. Richard Breckon, writing in 'The
Australian Philatelist' of June 1988, referred to the Perry blocks stating "at least one set exists in blocks of 4". We are not aware of any others.

1897 Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee original artwork for a 2d design featuring the Queen on Coinage in shades of blue with
Chinese white highlights (36x49mm) on a piece of thin artboard (83x91mm), remnants at the edges of what was presumably a protective mount. A beautiful piece that is far more appealing than the adopted design. (Image1) (Image2)

1897 Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee colour trials for the issued designs in an array of colours comprising 1d x10, 2d x10 and 2½d
x10 all Perf 12 on thick ungummed unwatermarked wove paper, generally very fine to superb. Ex 'Carrington' (Mark Dankin): sold in 2012 for $4890, where it was stated that this is believed to be the full range of colours produced for each
denomination. It was also stated they were derived from the triptych proofs which is clearly an error because those proofs were on a much thinner paper stock. Our assessment is that they are all actually line-perforated die proofs, a technique that
was also used in the early-Commonwealth period in Victoria. We note particularly that the denomination '2½D' is heavily impressed. See also Lot 73.
