War/Thailand", to Lancashire with faint Indian-pattern censor '127' cachet in violet applied at Rangoon & secured in transit with a small piece of British resealing tape, a bit banged-up. The writer states "... We are in a compound 20km from Bangkok.

1945 (Sep 12) Indian-pattern Forces Air Letter headed "POW Reception Unit/Bangalore India", endorsed "Ex PW Mail" and countersigned
"RDavidson Lieut" at lower-left, to Brisbane with Australian undated 'PASSED FREE' security machine presumably applied at Brisbane, endorsed "Received/2.10.45", a little worn. The lengthy letter states "...We have not yet moved from our camp 15 miles
from Phetburi....been paid 170 ticals which is equal to £5 we can purchase food and other requirements locally...I am showing visible signs of putting weight on...wireless...and new newspapers have been received...the last [letter] received was
February 1944 which I got on 16.1.1945...". This and the next lot are the only repatriation items we have seen to Australia with an Indian connection. (Image1) (Image2)

1945 (Oct 9) Indian-pattern Forces Triangle Air Letter headed "POW Reception Depot/Bangalore India", endorsed "Ex POW Mail" and
countersigned "HAS/Chaplain" at lower-left, to Queensland with '[No 3 AUST BASE P]O/2OC45/ F ' used at Brisbane, endorsed "Saturday/6.10.45", a little worn. The lengthy letter states "...We are still in the same camp awaiting our move to
Singapore...". He goes into detail about arrival at the camp in -.2.1944: "...Only the roofs of three huts were erected with no flooring and we were forced to sleep on the ground which was alive with insects...Heavy rains and a sea of mud added to
our discomfort...busily employed in making the huts habitable...a cyclone...completely demolished five of the huts leaving half the camp on the ground again...we had to boil [water] after drawing it from a stagnant lily pond..." This and the previous
lot are the only repatriation items we have seen to Australia with an Indian connection. And from this letter, it is clear that the released POWs weren't expecting to go to India. (Image1) (Image2)
