1898 (Aug 28) usage of Japan Postal Card 3s green with hand-coloured (hand-painted?) illustration of a lady walking along a river
on the reverse and added franking of Koban 1s green tied by Japanese-characters cds, to an officer on board the German survey ship (converted gunboat) SMS 'Möve' [Seagull] at Matupi, German New Guinea with lengthy hand-written message, a couple of
very minor blemishes. Between 1895-1905 Möve conducted extensive surveys mostly around New Guinea; in 1899, Bougainville locals killed the captain of a German merchant vessel, prompting Möwe to bring a police unit to the island to find the

but redirected to "OSAKA" over Kanji for Oeyama. censor in violet & han of Hazama Gen in scarlet, pencilled "17.9.44" receival on reverse, minor blemishes. [The 'Thracian' was scuttled at Hong Kong but repaired by the Japanese & converted to a
training ship. The POW Research Network Japan states the Oeyama POWs were used in an oil refinery or in a nickel mine at Kaya-cho]

1943 (June 6) Tokyo Number 1 Prison Camp (Kawasaki) Japanese black/buff POW postal card with large box for the sender's details
endorsed "No 1 Tokyo Area", two Japanese censors and hans of Takeuchi in crimson & Ichimura in scarlet, from a Radio Officer to Canada where War Effort 7c Plane affixed & flown to Manitoba with part 'TRANSCONA/DE4/43/MAN' arrival cds, minor wear; and
1944 (Oct 1) Canadian POW airmail postal card with Uniforms 1c & 4c tied by Calgary machine, to the sender of the previous item with Japanese censor and oval han of Hirota in rosine & circular han of Emori in scarlet, endorsed on reverse "Received/
April 21 45". An attractive duo. On 3.4.1942, Oswald Collett was captured by a German ship in the South Atlantic and taken to Japan, arriving 25.8.1942. With three non-contemporary photo prints.
