'SHANGHAI/LOCAL POST OFFICE' oval at upper-right, 'LOCAL POST/SHANGHAI' cds cancel in blue on the face, 'SHANGHAI/B/AP 28/93/LOCAL POST' arrival backstamp alos in blue, light folds & small closed tear at right. These were used in both Shanghai &

1918 (May 29) large bank envelope (187x125mm) with wax seals on reverse endorsed for insured mail on the face, to Tientsin from the
Russian Post Office at Kashgar, Sinkiang with unoverprinted Russia Arms 50k block of 10 (2x5) and 70k pair tied by fine to very fine strikes of the Cyrillic cds cancel with another very fine strike alongside, some paper 'cracking' & resultant faults
clear of the stamps & markings. Kashgar is one of the western-most cities in China, located in Sinkiang Province near the border with present-day Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. For over
2,000 years, Kashgar was an important stopping-place on the Silk Road between China, the Middle East, and Europe. The Russian railway network across Siberia, Manchuria and Central Asia offered an expeditious service to and from Sinkiang. All Russian

with telegram-like message "...Ward Road Police Hospital. Operation. Now better. Returning camp shortly...", very fine Lungwha camp cachet in rosine & unidentified han in scarlet, a bit aged.

1942 (June 20) Japanese Occupation Shanghai Prisoner of War Camp long envelope from Utah to a soldier ".../formerly at Wake
Island/Held by Japan/Shanghai China" with Red Cross at Geneva transit cachet in violet and unidentified han in scarlet, part of the flap missing & overall soiling. On 23.12.1941, the Japanese captured the US submarine base on Wake Island. 1187 troops
